    • Polyols, Sugar Alcohols[sf_imagebanner image=”/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/polyheaderBG.jpg” animation=”move-up” contentpos=”left” textalign=”left” extraclass=”prodheadbanner”] Sugar alcohols are commonly used to replace the volume or bulk of sugar, with less calories. Because sugar alcohols tend to have a lower sweetening power than sugar they are often used in combination with high intensity sweeteners. In addition to their sweetness, some sugar alcohols such as Erythritol and Xylitol can produce a noticeable cooling sensation in the mouth, which is very useful , for instance, in sugar-free hard candy or chewing gum. Sugar alcohols are not metabolized by oral bacteria, and as such do not contribute to tooth decay. They are also popular sweeteners among diabetics since they are usually incompletely absorbed into the blood stream from the small intestines producing a smaller change in blood glucose than “regular” sugar. For this purpose, sugar alcohols are sometimes referred to as Low-digestible carbohydrates (LDC). In The United States and Europe approved polyols include Erythritol, Isomalt, Lactitol, Maltitol, Mannitol, Sorbitol and Xylitol. The Ingredient House offers a wide range of polyols and has significant experience in this area. [/sf_imagebanner]

    • Hydrocolloids[sf_imagebanner image=”/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/hydrocolloidsheaderBG.jpg” animation=”move-up” contentpos=”left” textalign=”left” extraclass=”prodheadbanner”] Hydrocolloids are defined as colloid systems wherein the colloid particles are dispersed in water. Depending on the quantity of water available and the specific hydrocolloid material used, they can form gels or sols (liquid). Hydrocolloids structure the available water in a food system and provide functionality such as viscosity, gelation, texture, and stabilization of emulsions and foams. Many hydrocolloids are derived from natural sources such as agar-agar, alginate and carrageenan, which are extracted from seaweed; gelatin is produced from bovine and fish and other animal origins; and pectin is extracted from citrus peel and apple pomace. Other hydrocolloids are derived from manmade materials. The Ingredient House has a broad range of carrageenan and cellulose gel products as well as a growing portfolio of other important hydrocolloids. [/sf_imagebanner]

    • Soluble Fibers[sf_imagebanner image=”/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/solfiberheaderBG.jpg” animation=”move-up” contentpos=”left” textalign=”left” extraclass=”prodheadbanner”] Dietary Fibers are the indigestible portions of plants and are usually divided according to whether they are water-soluble or not (Soluble Fiber and Insoluble Fiber). Soluble Fibers (also referred to as prebiotics) are readily fermented in the colon into gases and physiologically active byproducts. They selectively stimulate the growth of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon, and thus improve host health. Soluble fibers can help lower blood cholesterol and manage glucose levels. Current recommendations from the United States National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, suggest that adults should consume 20-35 grams of dietary fiber per day. Unfortunately the current average daily intake is only 12-18 grams. The Ingredient House offers two very popular soluble fibers Inulin and Polydextrose. [/sf_imagebanner]

    • Insoluble Fibers[sf_imagebanner image=”/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/insfiberheaderBG.jpg” animation=”move-up” contentpos=”left” textalign=”left” extraclass=”prodheadbanner”] Dietary Fibers are the indigestible portions of plants and are usually divided according to whether they are water-soluble or not (Soluble Fiber and Insoluble Fiber). Insoluble Fibers are metabolically inert, absorbing water throughout the digestive system. The fibers swell in water and help to increase bulk, soften stool and shorten transit time through the intestinal tract. Current recommendations from the United States National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, suggest that adults should consume 20-35 grams of dietary fiber per day. Unfortunately the current average daily intake is only 12-18 grams. The Ingredient House offers a wide range of insoluble fibers including Oat Fiber, Soy Fiber, Wheat Fiber and Cellulose Fiber.
